About This Archive
TRIO Upward Bound is a pre-college educational program funded by the US Department of Education. The program provides high school students who are potential first-generation college graduates or are from low income families with the skills and motivation needed to complete high school and enter college prepared to succeed.
The University of Montevallo has hosted Upward Bound projects since 1986. Since that initial project serving 50 participants, the program has grown to three projects including an Upward Bound Math/Science project serving 188 students per year in eleven schools in Bibb, Chilton, and Shelby counties.
The UM TRIO Upward Bound projects have generated pictures, scrapbooks, newsletters, and other documents over the past almost 4 decades. This archive is an effort to scan, organize and preserve as much if that material as we can.
